Cassandra's Interview on Being a Military Wife

Q: What is the hardest time of day when your DH is deployed?
A:My DH goes to the field a lot and I have to say that the hardest time is definitely at night. He is normally gone during the day for work anyway and that is the time when you are busy with the kids and doing whatever needs to be done. But when you settle down for the night and realize you are alone, it’s hard.

Q: If your DH is deployed now, how much do your kids understand about where Daddy is and what's going on?
A: My DH is not deployed yet, but when the war started we sat down and explained to our 6 and 4 year olds what was happening and showed them where it was on the globe. We also answered their questions because at some point it could be their Dad’s time to go.

Q: What do you like best about military life?
A: I like the security of knowing that we have a steady paycheck and that we always have medical care.

Q: What do you like least about military life?
A: Being so far away from home and family and never staying in one place for very long.

Q: If you could address a group of war protestors, what would you tell them?
A: I have spent a lot of time thinking about this recently, and I would have to tell them, "You don't have to agree with what our country is doing or the reasons that it is being done. That is your right as a free person, but you should support our President and our troops regardless. All that we are showing to other countries with all of these protests is that we are not a united country. And what good is the protesting doing?? Is it really accomplishing anything other than costing the taxpayers money and keeping our law enforcement officers too busy to be fighting all the real crimes out there?"

Q: If your DS or DD wanted to enlist, would you encourage it or discourage it?
A: I would share all of the experiences we have had and make sure they truly understood what they were getting in to. But, of course, I would stand behind them no matter what and be a proud mother.

Q: If a friend's DD were dating someone in the military, would you tell her to run before it gets too serious, or would you sing the praises of being a military wife?
A:Again I would share my experiences and let them know that it is in no way an easy life but thank God there are people that are willing to do it.
