“Summer time and the living is easy…” Or is it? Every year we strive to make sure our families enjoy the fun summer days. But how many times have you found yourself saying, “What are we going to do today?” Well, here are some suggestions, with a little help from some members of our community, that might inspire you. Together we can have the best summer yet!
Amusement Parks: Who doesn’t love a good roller coaster? Those high drops, the loop-the-loop, the hands-up-in-the-air-shrieks-of delight? No matter where you live, chances are there is an amusement park nearby! There is, of course, the quintessential family favorite, Disney World. But if you don’t want to make the trek to Florida, how about checking out Six Flags? They have parks spread throughout the United States and even in Europe. Six Flags parks have something for everyone: great shows, areas just for the kids and, of course, great rides. For the coaster enthusiast, there is Cedar Point in Sandusky, OH. It is touted as “The Roller Coaster Capital of the World.” They have 16 different coasters to keep your adrenaline pumping! To find the amusement park nearest you, visit this site and look up your state.
State & County Fairs: Fairs are always a summer time hit with the families. Who can resist the lights and sounds of the midway? And don’t forget all that yummy fair fare! Check out your state for the location and dates of your local Fair.
Beaches: Whether you live near the ocean or just go to the lake, beaches are always a hit with the family! Playing in the sand, splashing in the waves, riding on a boat, fishing, whatever your aquatic interests are, you can find them at your nearest watering hole! And for extra fun, here are some crafts you can do while there or with the treasures you find in the sand.
Camping: Hitch up that trailer; pack up that tent; we’re going to sleep in the great outdoors! What is more fun than camping with the family? Some of the best memories can be created while out in the “wild.” Here is a great site that has general camping advice for families. And another that lists gives details about various campgrounds across the U.S. and abroad.
Road Trips: This can be similar to camping but is more for those who think that “roughing it” is a hotel without room service. : ) Traveling on the road can be fun, but here is a site with some tips that can help make it even more enjoyable for all.
Home Sweet Home: We can’t all go somewhere every day, so what do we do to keep ourselves entertained at home? Here are some links to projects, and a couple of sites that have great ideas to keep the kids excited and entertained in their own backyard.
