Birth Doula CertificationI took my DONA(DONA International) Birth Doula Training in April 2003. Shortly after that I made the decision to open my own natural family products company called Natural Blessings. I concentrated on my company while working with another Doula in Lloydminster. In March of 2004 I made the decision to focus on the Doula side of my business more and left the Doula practice I had been with. In May 2004 I joined the Lloydminster Doula Association. Since then I have been promoting Doulas in Lloydminster and building awareness of our services. I am a member of the Global Birth Institue based in British Columbia and am working on the requirements for becoming a Certified Birth Doula through GBI. As of October 2004 I finished my observation of Prenatal classes in Lloydminster, I am finishing my reports and my births to achieve certification. Lactation Counsellor CertificationI have been thinking about becoming a Certified Lactation Consultant since 2003. My goals are to become a IBCLC(International Board Certified Lactation Counsellor). It will take me several hours of lactation support before I can write the exam. I looked into taking various lactation support workshops/certifications through different organizations but they were all too far away for me to travel when I have 3 young children at home. When I saw that Connie from MotherCare was holding a Lactation Counsellor Workshop through GBI in Edmonton in May of 2004 I was elated. Finally what I was looking for was coming close to home, unfortunatly due to a TOPS event I was to attend in Grande Prairie the same weekend I could not attend. Then in June or July 2004 I noticed that a Lactation Counsellor Workshop was now coming even closer to Lloydminster. I am currently working on the requirements to become a certified Lactation Counsellor through GBI and will then go on to become a IBCLC.
